Here's Johnny!

A friend of mine (thanks Anhela!) sent me this picture. Her aunt's boss took this while on a business trip in Los Angeles. For those who can't recognize him, it's Johnny Depp. And, he was attending the premiere of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." He flew in for the event while currently filming Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3. I've recently become a Johnny Depp fan after I heard him interviewed for this latest release. The interviewer asked him, "So, you've done a lot of 'family-friendly' films lately - Finding Neverland, Pirates of the Caribbean, now Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - is there a reason why?" And his response was, "I'd like to be able to make movies that my children can watch, so I'm leaning towards doing more family films." Big props to you, Johnny, for creating films that are suitable for the whole family to watch. Posted by Picasa

Okay...I never thought I'd disagree with you on anything, but I guess there's a first time for everything, huh! :OD So he said the PC thing about movies for kids...I'll give him that. However, I specifically don't watch JD movies because I don't like JD, so I can't say that I've seen anything, really, that he's done---short of "Edward Scissorhands." I don't like him, and don't watch him because JD is from KY and is not shy at all about blasting us, as well as the rest of America for being gauche, uneducated cretons. I don't like Americans that go outside of the US and then mouth off...ala--Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks. JD likes to do that kind of stuff, so I don't see his movies. And on a whole 'nother note...what the heck do women see in this guy???? He was kinda cute in the 21 Jump Street days, although I didn't watch that either...but now he just looks icky. Buy a razor fercryinoutloud.

Jules,

Well, I've never heard him bash KY or the US, so if he has, I stand corrected. I just find it refreshing to hear any actor stand up for doing family films. It's nearly impossible to find great movies that I can go to without being offended by the language or sexual activity. I've eliminated attending any R rated movies, but even some of the PG-13 ones leave something to be desired. Whatever happened to quality movies? When did profanity become chic? Ok, off that soapbox...

What do women see in this guy? I don't know...call me the rebellious woman who likes the rebel look on some guys. He's a bit quiet and mysterious, that's somewhat appealing. The only thing that would attract me more to him would be a shaved head and goatee. :)

"Finding Neverland" was one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen, but not because of how it ends.

I was depressed because the heart of the movie is about a man forsaking his family so that he could join himself to another. The guy practically abandoned his wife, and I was supposed to sympathize with his reasons for doing so.

I don't think that movie was very family friendly.

Otherwise, we really like Johnny Depp too. He's a brilliant actor.

We long so much for a "clean" movie - clear of foul language and nudity - that we overlook big issues like family abandonment.

Very good point, Denny!
